Backyard Harvest is all about helping you to discover the joy of growing your own food. We can help with kitchen garden design and installation to transform your garden into an edible oasis.
There’s something about growing our own food that makes so much sense. You can produce your own great tasting organic vegetables at a fraction of the cost of buying them and most importantly, you know exactly what has (and hasn’t) gone into them.
We proudly supply and install raised garden beds to Geelong and the Surfcoast. Backyard Harvest puts emphasis where possible on three business principals; using local products and services, optimising sustainability in materials and practises and applying an ethical assessment on every business decision in relation to the community and our environment.
Sustainability is paramount at Backyard Harvest. Check out our products page and you’ll see we use reclaimed materials where possible:
Our standard veggie bed timbers are ethically sourced from aged cypress macrocarpa trees in Gippsland where they were planted as windbreaks over 100 years ago. Milled by a small family operation, we are the only supplier of this fantastic, ground-durable timber around Geelong and the Surf Coast, for those who want an ethical, quality reinforced bed free from chemicals.
Backyard Harvest also sources pre-used apple crates, from organic sources where available, which create a fantastic vintage look. And on a smaller scale the Mini Box is a great option for a gift or table centrepiece for weddings, functions or cafes.
Backyard Harvest can also quote on bespoke raised bed design and assist with consultation and maintenance of existing gardens to keep them organic and productive, along with group workshops for community, private or corporate activities.
Backyard Harvest recently installed the Incredible Edible Courtyard at the Geelong Performing Arts Centre as part of the Sustainable Living Festival Geelong 2014 and hosted a forum on designing edible landscapes around your home; from permaculture and zoning to microclimates and seasonality.
Backyard Harvest evolved out of a fantastic Surf Coast Energy Group project called ‘GROW IT!’ where over 100 people on Geelong’s Surf Coast discovered the fun of learning to grow their own veggies at home.
Backyard Harvest. Local. Sustainable. Ethical.
